Cold Chain Vaccine Management
As health professionals we need to ensure people receive an effective health product (a vaccine that has not been adversely affected by heat or cold). It is important to carefully manage resources. Vaccines are expensive and can be in short supply. Efficient vaccine storage management is a good quality assurance practice.
The cold chain is the system of transporting and storing vaccines within the safe temperature range of +2°C to +8°C. The cold chain begins from the time the vaccine is manufactured, moves through to distribution to practices and ends when the vaccine is administered.
