General Practice Immunisation Incentive (GPII)

The General Practice Immunisation Incentive (GPII) provides financial incentives to general practices for monitoring, promoting and providing appropriate immunisation services to children under the age of seven years. The aim of the GPII is to encourage at least 90 per cent of practices to fully immunise at least 90 per cent of children under seven years of age attending their practices. The GPII is administered by Medicare Australia on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

NWQPHC Practice Support Staff work closely with General Practice staff to:

  • Identify practices falling below 90% coverage rates across age groups and work with them individually to review data, GPII reports and ACIR overdue notices.
  • Continue to support and encourage those practices whose coverage rates are above 90% to ensure their rates are maintained.
  • Raise awareness via education and resources regarding the best practice guidelines for vaccine management
  • Promote and provide data cleaning activities within General Practice six monthly e.g. by reconciling ACIR reports with the practice patient immunisation data.
  • Highlight procedures to improve accuracy of records regarding; identifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children not born in Australia and children of conscientious objector
